Bosch Tassimo Vivy Coffee Machine UK Review

 March 12, 2017

By  Enda McLarnon

There is little question that the Bosch Tassimo Vivy Coffee Machine is one of the best selling pod style coffee machines, currently available on the UK marketplace.

These pod/capsule style coffee machines are made by different brands and come in different styles. The one thing they have in common, is that they are easy to use, fast and very efficient at making great tasting coffee.

With machines like the Tassimo, they are mess free as they simply use a pod (disc) to make the coffee. There is no need to grind coffee beans, use a grinder to make grains or try to dispose of those grounds. With this Bosch model, you place a pod into the coffee machine, push a button, wait a few seconds and then enjoy your brew.

On Amazon UK, and on other online websites, the Bosch Tassimo is one of the best selling coffee machines in this pod style. This one along with the Nescafe Dolce  dominate the UK markets. As you can see from the image above, this one does look really cool. It is a really stylish machine in appearance alone.

What Buyers Say About the Bosch Tassimo Vivy Coffee Machine

Below we have summarised what real life buyers make of this machine. Overall they rate this Bosch Tassimo as a 4.5 out of 5 star machine. This is based on a 5 star rating system, with 1 being the lowest rating, and 5 stars being the highest.

I have shown the buyer ratings by a percentage split, which I think you may find useful, to see the ratings at a glance.

It is pretty easy to see from these ratings, that 7.4 out of 10 people gave this one the full 5 star rating. Over 86% rated it a 4 star product or higher. Around 7% were clearly not happy with their purchase. Generally speaking though, the majority of buyers were pleased with their purchase.

What Buyers Didn't Like About the Tassimo

If the percentage of 1 star reviews is small, I tend to ignore that, as the complaints are normally pretty small. However at 7% that is significant enough to have a more detailed look. So I did and here is what those buyers had to say.

Like many reviews there were a couple of "strange" ones so I have ignored those. The ones that did exist were primarily about two things. Firstly some buyers received a faulty product that could not switch on and they had to return it. That is never a great experience. It is understandable that buyers would quite rightly give the product a low rating, when this happens to them.

The second type of poor review was that the machine did not make great tasting coffee. Those buyers found that the coffee was either luke warm, and also that the coffee made did not taste that good. Now clearly, that is a matter of opinion, by the buyer.

I own a Bosch Tassimo myself, and personally I think it does a good job of making coffee without having to do a lot of work. Does it taste as good as the coffee I make in my higher end De'Longhi machine? No it doesn't, but for a quick coffee, taken from a small pod, it tastes good enough.

Before diving off into a detailed review, it is worthwhile finding out what this coffee maker can actually do. The actual coffee maker, is made by the well known Bosch brand.

Underneath, you will find a video review of what types of coffee you can make with this particular model. The choices are quite varied and many different types of coffee pods are available in the UK market.

So now you know what it does, let's take a closer look at some of the details.

Bosch Tassimo Vivy Hot Drinks and Coffee Machine review

The Tassimo Vivy does look really good. It is also compact in size so that is good for space saving. If you have a smaller kitchen, then this one will not dominate the space. It is neat and tidy, and will sit quite well in a corner of the worktop.

To operate it, simply plug it in, and switch it on with the button at the side of the base. Fill up the tank with water according to the maximum indicated on the side. The water tank is easily removed, filled up and then easily attached back on to the machine.

After that pick your T-disc and insert it face down into the top of the machine, and close the lid. Place your cup on the cup holder, and then push the button on the side of the machine. The coffee will come out and will stop when the right amount of coffee has been produced.

Can You Use Different Pods in the Tassimo Vivy Machine?

Quite a number of people ask if you can use different pods or discs in this machine and the answer is no that is not possible, as the Necafe pods are much smaller. You also can not use K-Cups either. Normally you find that you have to buy the correct pod for each type of machine. The Tassimo uses t-discs only.

Who Would Buy the Bosch Tassimo?

All of these types of machines are rightly known as convenience coffee makers. You fill them up with water, insert a pod of your choice, and then hit a button. Your coffee comes out the spout and it is ready to drink. That is how simple these are to use and how simple they are to keep clean. They give you good quality coffee, quickly and without the hassle of going through the entire coffee making process.

Many people use these just to make a quick brew as and when they fancy a coffee. They are also used by some people in their small office for the same reason. Many people also use these in holiday homes and in caravans.

It is also a good choice for anyone who likes to try different types of coffee drinks. With this machine you can get 40 different types, and that is an impressive range. I have shown some of these coffee varieties in the image below.

Tassimo T Discs Pods Variety Pack

These are available as variety packs, and are a great way of trying out what is on offer. Once you find your favourite flavours, then you can buy these in boxes and use those. Personally that is what I did, until I narrowed down my favourite flavours and tastes.

How Much are the Bosch Tassimo T-Discs?

It will vary depending on where you buy them. I have included average prices here for one reason. If you are going to buy this machine, then the T-discs will be your main running cost. I think it is therefore important to understand the average prices for these.

This is a good rule of thumb - 16 pods cost around £6.00 so that is about 35-40 pence a capsule or 35 pence per drink. If you buy in bulk they will be cheaper. The price also varies depending on which coffee drink you want to try. These price variations are small though, and it is always a good idea to shop around.

Our Summary & Verdict on the Bosch Tassimo Coffee Machine

I own and prefer the Bosch Tassimo to something like the Nescafe Dolce. Before I made my final decision, I did use both to see which one I liked the best. I preferred the look and appearance of the Bosch Tassimo model, and I also thought the Tassimo made slightly better tasting coffee.

I also like my coffee piping hot, and this one does achieve that, even though some buyers would disagree. Most buyers seem happy enough with the results. Many people are a tad surprised when they first use this, as it is quite noisy.

These smaller machines are all like that though, in that they generate a lot more noise than you may first expect to hear.

If this is not the right pod machine for you, then why not check our list of pod coffee machines by clicking here.

This model though has an RRP of around £100. Most shops and online stores however sell this at around £70. Look out for a price at around that lower one. There are also promotions available from time to time, so always worth keeping an eye out for those.
