De’Longhi KG49 Blade Coffee Grinder UK Review

 April 20, 2017

By  Enda McLarnon

The De'Longhi KG49 is a very popular and affordable blade coffee grinder. Priced at under £25 this makes this an affordable choice for most UK buyers. Buyers rate this with an average 86% buyer satisfaction rating.

De'Longhi is a very high quality brand, and they are well known for their range of coffee products including their grinders and machines. This one can grind up to 90 grams of coffee.

It comes in a black colour with a banded chrome finish, as you can see in the image below.

De'Longhi KG49 Blade Coffee Grinder Review

A Little About the De'Longhi Brand

This is one of the best known brands when it comes to buying coffee machines. This is an Italian brand and they have been making coffee makers and machines since 1974.

Their vision is to be recognised as the global market leader in coffee, comfort and selected kitchen and home care.

They are known for their high quality design, and also for making high quality products.

This is not a burr grinder as it uses a blade to grind the coffee.

What Buyers Say About the De'Longhi KG49 Grinder

Below we have summarised what real life buyers make of this machine. Overall they rate this model as a 4.3 out of 5 star grinder. This is based on a 5 star rating system, with 1 being the lowest rating, and 5 stars being the highest.

Around 63% of buyers give this machine a full 5 star rating. 82% rate it 4 stars or higher, so overall pretty decent ratings.

What Buyers Didn't Like About the De'Longhi KG49

If the percentage of 1 star reviews is small, I normally ignore that, as the complaints are small. However at around 8% at the lower end, as a buyer, you should always consider these carefully, before making a purchase. Please keep low ratings in perspective though, and with this model I found about 25 bad reviews out of 100.

Those buyers who gave this a low rating did so for the following reasons. Some said it was a poor design in their opinion, and that it was impossible to grind beans, without making a mess. Quite a few of the buyers had a common complaint, of this grinder breaking, after only a few uses.

Finally the other big complaint was that as it uses a blade to chop, this one did not grind to their satisfaction.

Most of the complaints were justified in my opinion. This is especially true when it comes to the quality of the grind. For the best grounds, and especially for fine grinds needed for espresso, a burr grinder is required.

Overall though with just over 75% being satisfied with their purchase, we will now look at this coffee grinder in much more detail.

Who Would Buy this De'Longhi Grinder?

We completed a top 10 list of blade coffee grinders which you can read, by clicking here.

This De'Longhi with a 3.9 out of 5 star rating, did not make that list. For me that means that there are much better options available.

Many UK buyers still opt for this model, mainly as it is from a good brand, and also because they will only do the very odd bit of grinding.

If you are someone in that position, then this one will get the job done. It really is not anything special, but it is adequate for the job.

Most grinders don't have a cup selector. If you are unsure as to how much coffee you need to grind, and want to avoid waste, then this grinder also does that job for you.

Key Things to Know About the KG49 Model

This one is pretty easy to use. You simply pop the beans into the grinder, close the lid and hit the button. There is a transparent lid so as you can judge the fineness of the grind. You can if you wish also turn the selector to the number of cups of coffee you are going to make.

That way you can only grind the right amount of coffee beans. Like many of the blade grinders though, these can be a real pain to clean. At least this one comes with a cleaning brush. There really is no easy answer to this problem, as they are pretty much the same, when it comes to cleaning them.

My Summary & Verdict on the DeLonghi-KG49

The majority of people seem happy with the results. The price is OK without being anything special.  If you prefer to check our top 10 list of blade grinders, please click here.

This machine is really easy to use and looks pretty well. For someone who just needs to grind some beans from time to time, this grinder is ideal.
