Dualit 75015 Burr Coffee Grinder UK Review

 April 22, 2017

By  Enda McLarnon

This is my review of the Dualit 75015 burr coffee grinder. This is a relatively expensive, but good enough quality conical burr grinder.

As most coffee lovers will already know, that type of burr grinder is by a long way, the best and most effective way of grinding coffee. As you can see from the image below, this one looks really good, and it is of very high quality. This is a well recognised brand.

Dualit Brand

Max Gort-Barten was the founder of Dualit back in Germany in 1914. In the '80s the trend for commercial kitchen appliances grew a lot and they made a combi Toaster, sandwich cage, along with Dualit's first ground coffee machines. In 1989 Max was awarded the CBE for services to the British manufacturing industry.

The company outgrew its original home in the Old Kent Road and moved to new premises in Crawley, West Sussex. There they invented a new semi-automatic espresso maker early in the decade, Dualit launched the Espressivo Coffee Machine in 2008.

This gave customers the option of using ground coffee or handy ESE coffee pods, the Espressivo paved the way for Dualit's current range of multi-brew machines.

Dualit launched its first coffee machines that used capsules to make coffee. Coffee continued to be at the forefront of Dualit's product development when it saw an opportunity to develop coffee capsules that would work in Nespresso®'s* range of capsule machines.

Dualit opened its own capsule production plant in 2013, putting its engineering experience into developing a patented range of coffee capsules compatible with both Dualit coffee machines and Nespresso® machines.

This grinder has a large capacity hopper that can hold up to 250 grams of beans at any one time. The recommended retail price for this one is £79.95.

However if you search around online, you will find the average price for this model is around £65-70. That is not cheap for a coffee grinder. The question therefore is, does this grinder represent good value for money? Let's have a look.

What Buyers Say About the Dualit 75015

Below we have summarised what real life buyers make of this grinder. Overall they rate this Dualit model with an average 82% buyer satisfaction rate online.

When you check out the available ratings online, from the different websites that sell them and allow buyers to review, then this is considered overall to be a high rating.

We also discovered from these ratings, that just over half of the buyers gave this one the full 5 star rating. 75% rated it at 80% or higher.

Around 11% were clearly not happy with their purchase. Generally speaking though, the majority of buyers were pleased with their purchase.

What Buyers Didn't Like About the Dualit 75015 Grinder

If the percentage of 1 star reviews is small, I tend to not worry too much. That is simply because the number of complaints are normally pretty small. However at 11% that is significant enough to have a more detailed look. So I did and here is what those buyers had to say.

Like many reviews there were a couple of "strange" ones so I have ignored those. That still left about 17 out of 100 one star reviews. Those complaints varied quite a bit as you can imagine.

The vast majority of complaints came down to one main thing. Those buyers believed that this grinder did a pretty poor job, of grinding good quality grains suitable for espresso.

There were a few minor complaints about the design of the grinder, but those were small.

Dualit 75015 Coffee Grinder Main Review

Dualit 75015 electric grinder

When compared to other burr grinders, of a similar price point, this one has enough features to deliver good quality grounds. Buyers rate this one with an average 82%. That is a very good rating without being really special.

It seems to fall down in buyer's expectations, by not being able to grind fine enough, for an espresso. That does of course require a very fine grind.

Ease of Use - this grinder comes with an instruction book. In all honesty there is not a lot to using it. You place your beans in the hopper, select the grind type you want and switch it on.

Cleaning - The good news with this grinder is that you can remove the burrs easily. That means you can clean them and put them back in. That makes clean up easier and also a great deal faster.

In terms of appearance, this one actually looks great and will look fantastic in any kitchen. It has a really sleek finish, and it looks exactly the way you would expect a coffee grinder to look.

Who Would Buy this Coffee Grinder?

Dualit 75015

Thousands of people have bought this conical burr grinder.

The brand is well known, and overall it seems to deliver good ground coffee. It is however hard for me to ignore what buyers say about the finer grounds.

This is certainly not a cheap option and the price will put many people off. In my opinion there are better quality burr grinders available.

Anyone prepared to invest in a burr grinder, rather then the cheaper blade style grinder, knows they will have to pay a little more to get a better grind.

If you are prepared to do that, then you want a grinder that will actually deliver. This one does get an 80% satisfaction rate from buyers, though other burr grinders do get higher ratings.

My Summary & Verdict on the Dualit 75015

The single most important thing about a coffee grinder is the grind quality that it can actually deliver on a consistent basis. That comes down to the grain size and the consistency and uniformity of the grind.

When you buy pre-ground coffee, it is always worth looking at the fineness of the grind. I love the Italian Lavazza coffee which has a very fine grind. If you can afford the other Italian product Illy coffee, you will see that is even finer.

Those work best for espresso. When it comes to then grinding your own beans, you want this very fineness.

That is because when you tamp those down, you form a compact layer. Your coffee machine will then push pressurised water through, and will extract the full flavour out of the coffee grind.

This Dualit one does a good job at that, though some buyers say just not quite good enough. You can read other burr grinder reviews here.

I have not personally used this grinder so would not even consider making any type of recommendations. 80% of buyers are very happy, and around 20% say it does not grind fine enough.
