 December 5, 2016

By  Enda McLarnon

This is our review of the popular VonShef Premium Burr Coffee Grinder. Priced at under £35, this model offers a number of interesting grind options, for coffee drinkers in the UK.

This burr grinder is no longer available. We recommend checking our top 10 list of burr grinders by clicking here,

The good news is, that like almost all Vonshef models, this one comes with a 2-year warranty. That offers good peace of mind when you are considering a purchase.

I think what I like about this one initially, is that it looks really good. The style should also suit most kitchens. The stainless steel body is always a good neutral choice for those buying any small kitchen appliance.

VonShef is a kitchen brand that is becoming very popular in the UK. They make an entire range of kitchen appliances. They do stand out from other brands as they have really good looking designs.

The Vonshef Brand

The VonShef brand make a wide range of cooking and kitchen appliances that includes food preparation, food storage, kitchen electricals, gadgets and cookware.

They do not make a lot of coffee kitchen products apart from coffee grinders and these grinders are also suitable for grinding nuts and seeds.

Main Review of the VonShef Premium

Starting with the price point I believe that this one is priced correctly. You can pay a lot of money for a high end burr grinder. This model is definitely at the lower end of the price point. Given what it can do, that feels about right though.

It has the important elements of 18 grind settings, a selection of how much you want to grind, and it does indeed use burrs to give you those options. It certainly ticks all of the basic options, and it does have a nice appearance.

It is pretty simple to use with just a few settings to master. All the parts detach so that also makes it easy to clean.

Key Features

You can see from the image that there is a simple on/off switch

You can also select how much coffee you need to grind by selecting the number of cups.

There is also a dial along the top to pick the thickness of grind.

More Details

Like any electric burr grinder, you simply plug it into a main's socket to power it up.

This professional burr grinder has the capacity to grind 250 grams of coffee beans. That is enough to make up to 16 normal sized coffee cups. The lid of the grinder is transparent. That means it is easy to see when the hopper needs to be refilled with coffee beans.

This grinder comes with a coffee scoop and a cleaning brush.

What Buyers Liked

  • All parts can be removed and that makes this on easy to clean
  • Most buyers said that it did grind well and was consistent
  • Pretty quiet for a grinder
  • For the money it is good enough value
  • It is easy to use

Didn't Like so Much

  • A little fiddly to get the hopper lid on and off
  • The number of cups selector is very poor, and is of little value

My Summary of the Vonshef Burr Grinder

This is a decent entry level burr grinder. It isn't one that I would get over excited about. Clearly, from reading all the buyer reviews, the cup selector is pretty worthless on this. It does seem to do a good job on grinding, but when you pick the number of cups, it does seem to have a mind of its own.

If you are a coffee buff and like to be really accurate with your grinds, then there are better and more expensive options. This one does a good basic grinding job, and is better than any of the blade options.

Overall the Vonshef Premium burr grinder gets an 86% satisfaction rating from buyers. That is a good enough overall rating. However if you are an espresso lover, and need really fine grinds, then avoid this one.

If you like filtered coffee or percolated coffee, which needs a coarser grind, then this one will deliver for you. You can read about other burr grinder options here. This one looks good, does a decent job of grinding, but just not so hot at the finer grinds.
