 March 31, 2017

By  Enda McLarnon

The Tefal GT203840 Coffee Grinder is a popular choice of grinder for many UK buyers. It has a powerful 200 watt motor, and when combined with 2 stainless steel blades, does a very good job of grinding coffee beans.

You can see what this particular blade grinder looks like just below.

The Tefal Brand

Tefal are probably one of the best known brands in the UK. As far back as 1954, Marc Grégoire followed his wife's advice and as he had done for his fishing gear, used Teflon to coat her pans.

Two years later, Tefal was created to produce non-stick frying pans and became the first creator of non-stick cookware. It was a revolutionary way to make life easier for people.

These days they make a whole range of kitchen products and appliances. That of course includes coffee machines and coffee grinders.

As you can see from the image above, this coffee machine looks pretty good, and will suit most kitchen styles. What is impressive about this model though is the fact that it is from a very good brand, and yet available at a very good price point.

How Buyers Rate the Tefal GT203840 Coffee Grinder

Below we have summarised what real life buyers make of this machine. Overall they rate this Tefal model as a 4.4 out of 5 star machine. This is based on a 5 star rating system, with 1 being the lowest rating, and 5 stars being the highest.

I have shown the buyer ratings by a percentage split, which I think you may find useful, to see the ratings at a glance.

It is pretty easy to see from these ratings, that overall they are very good. Around 7 out of 10 people give this machine a full 5 star rating. 87% rate it 4 stars or higher, so overall pretty good ratings. At the other end 6% is significant enough for the lowly 1 star rating. That indeed requires some further investigation.

What Buyers Didn't Like Abut the Tefal GT203840

If the percentage of 1 star reviews is small, I tend to ignore that, as the complaints are normally pretty small. However at around 6% at the lower end, there could well be something for you as a buyer, to consider, before making a purchase.

If you are new to the world of grinding your own coffee beans, then we would recommend buying a good quality burr grinder. That is simply because they do a better job than this type of blade grinder. That said, many people buy a grinder for a range of grinding jobs such as nuts, seeds and spices. if that is what you want a grinder for, then this Tefal model will certainly do that job.

When I looked at the low ratings for this grinder, here is a summary of what I found. Some buyers were sent the wrong model and that was easily rectified. The main complaints though that the capacity of this was simply too small when it came to grinding nuts. Some buyers also thought that it burned the coffee beans, a common complaint when using any blade grinder.

Some buyers also believed that it was hard to clean. Some simply said it stopped working and was rubbish. So now you know what those buyers said, but always bear in mind, that there were only 6%, in total of buying complaints.

Overall though with just over 87% being satisfied with their purchase, we will now look at this coffee grinder in much more detail.

Who Would Buy this Tefal Model?

There are a great many choices for coffee grinders in the United Kingdom. These are all available in hand or manual types, blade grinders like this model and also in the more expensive burr grinder style.

People who buy this type of grinder usually do so as the grinder will be used for a whole variety of grinding. Although they may use this to grind some coffee beans, its prime use will more likely to be for grinding nuts and seeds. Normally this will be for cooking or baking.

When you read the reviews, there are many types of buyers. Those who want to grind nuts like almonds or seeds like the flax seed use this machine. It does a reasonable job on coffee though far from perfect. For thicker grinds we think this one works great. However for the finer espresso style grinds, we think this one struggles a bit.

Key Things to Know About the Tefal GT203840

This machine works by placing your ingredients inside. You then close the lid and push a button to spin the blades. The blades then quite simply chop up anything that is inside there. Like most blade grinders this is quite a noisy process.

It is well enough made and heavy enough not to bounce around. It is also from the excellent Tefal kitchen brand.

It grinds quickly and as far as coffee beans go, it takes about 10-20 seconds. If you buy a large bag of coffee beans, then only ever grind what you need, as that will keep the beans fresh.

My Summary & Verdict on the Tefal GT203840 Coffee Grinder

The majority of people seem happy with the results. This is not a high end coffee grinder by any stretch of the imagination, but is appears to be good enough for most buyers. There are for certain much better grinders available on the UK market, but those will be a lot more expensive.

If this is not the model for you, or it is no longer in stock, then check out our top 10 list of blade grinders, by clicking here.

This model has a recommended retail price of around £22. Many online stores have slashed the price to around £19-20. At the lower price this is good value for money.

This type of promotion is usually available. That is one of the key factors that help people decide that this is the right coffee grinder for them.
