Bodum Bistro Electric Coffee Grinder UK Review

 August 1, 2017

By  Enda McLarnon

In this review we have checked out buyer ratings and reviews, on the popular Bodum Bistro electric coffee grinder. This model is a burr grinder, which are of course a better choice, than a normal blade grinder.

By opting for the burr style, that will of course be more expensive, but the benefits do justify the higher price tag. This Bodum model retails at an RRP of £85.00. You can however find this cheaper online, as you will see down below.

Bodum Bistro Electric Coffee Grinder Review

The Bodum Brand

For coffee lovers the Bodum brand is instantly recognisable. They are a company from Denmark and it was founded by Peter Bodum back in 1944.

It is now managed by his son Jorgen Bodum and they primarily specialise in coffee and tea solutions. They produced the Mocca Bodum, one of the first vacuum coffee style makers.

SANTOS was the product that placed BODUM® firmly on the international stage, where it was acclaimed for its unique design and went on to become one of the most important coffee makers worldwide throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

They continue to develop and introduce many innovative products to the UK market.

You can see from the image above, that this grinder certainly looks the part. Now let's have a closer look, and get into the details.

Bodum Bistro Grinder At a Glance

This model holds 220 grams of beans, and by pushing a button, you can quickly and easily get a range of grounds. There are variable options on the thickness of the grind, and that is essential to have. That is because you can pick the right thickness depending on which method of brewing, you are going to use.

The hopper is made from what is called "Borosilicate glass." That simply means that the glass has been treated, in such a way that it greatly reduces, the static cling of the coffee grounds.

This grinder is available in the following colours:

  • Black
  • Red
  • Silver
  • Copper
  • Off White

Bodum Bistro burr grinder

The majority of buyers said this one did grind fine enough for espresso. There were others who said it did not do that. This is always an area of disagreement, when it comes to buying a coffee grinder.

We have used a number of grinders, and this one does grind fine enough. It takes a little patience to get there, but it does. Many people believe that an espresso grind needs to be like powder. That is not correct. The powder type of grind is used for Turkish coffee.

Espresso does need to be fine, (almost like powder) but still look like the grains you would buy, if they were pre-ground in a store. This one can do that. If you watched the video, you will see that being done.

  1. One very important criteria for me is noise. My burr grinder which I own is too noisy to use in the morning as it wakes people up in the downstairs apartment! How does this compare please

    1. Hi Tim, still noisy as all burr or blade grinders are. The only way around that is a manual one but that then takes a lot more time to grind.
