Igenix IG8225 Bean to Cup Filter Coffee Maker UK Review

 July 11, 2017

By  Enda McLarnon

The Igenix IG8225 1050W is a 1.5 litre capacity, "Bean to Cup Digital Filter" coffee maker. This coffee machine is the ideal choice for those who like to buy their own coffee beans, and then use those fresh beans, to make rich and strong filter coffee.

So if you imagine going to your local coffee supplier, or to a supermarket and buying nice fresh coffee beans. Then you picture pouring those into your filter machine, where they are freshly ground.

Then those same coffee grains, are then used in this machine, to make a steaming hot pot of filtered coffee. That is what you can do with this Igenix model.

The Igenix Brand

Like many brands the Igenix brand was formed initially when they made six cooling products in 2002.

They began to diversify and in the next 8 years they had increased their product range to over 70 products, mainly in the small domestic appliance and heating markets.

As of 21017 they have over 130 appliances including several different types of coffee machines.

How Do Buyers Rate the Igenix IG8225 Filter Coffee Maker?

Below we have summarised what real life buyers make of this machine. Overall they rate this model as a 3.9 out of 5 star machine. This is based on a 5 star rating system, with 1 being the lowest rating, and 5 stars being the highest.

It is pretty easy to see from these ratings, that just over half of all buyers give this machine a full 5 star rating. 72% rate it 4 stars or higher, so overall decent ratings.

At the other end 15% gave this Igenix model the lowly 1 star rating. That is much higher than we normally like to see. We will of course explain why that is the case down below.

What Buyers Didn't Like About the De'Longhi Esam4000.b

If the percentage of 1 star reviews is small, I normally ignore that, as the complaints are small. However at around 15% at the lower end, there could well be something for you as a buyer, to consider, before making a purchase. Please keep low ratings in perspective though, and with this model I found about 12 bad reviews out of 80

When I looked at those here is what I found. Almost all of the buyers clearly stated, that after a few uses it would only make a small amount of coffee, and certainly nowhere near a full pot.

Quite a few buyers said it was ok at the start, but then after a few uses, the machine would grind all of the beans, but only produce a small amount of coffee. When you expect a full pot of filter coffee, that is truly annoying.

Most of the complaints were justified as in my opinion, and those buyers had the hassle of having to pack it up ad return it.

That goes a long way to explaining the 3.9 out of 5 star rating.

I think I would also like to point out that coffee machines can suffer from a build up of limescale. That could well be the reason that some buyers are experiencing this "blocking problem." In really hard water areas, limescale build up quickly, and it might be doing that in this machine.

An easy way to find out is to run a descaler through the machine, and see if that fixes the problem.

One other thing worth noting is that some coffee beans are almost greasy in nature. That makes them sticky, and these can often get jammed in any type of bean to cup coffee machine.

Who Would Buy this Igenix IG8225 Coffee Maker?

De'Longhi Esam4000.b Magnifica Bean to Cup Coffee Machine Model

At around £95, this one is affordable enough. For anyone on this type of budget, and likes the idea of a full bean to cup experience, then this one is a decent enough choice.

The better bean to cup filter machines, can cost 2-3 times the price of this one. However as you see for about 15% of buyers, this Igenix failed to work properly.

The important lesson here is that if you do buy this one, and it does go faulty, make sure that you keep any proof of purchase, just in case it goes faulty.

It is important to keep in mind that this still gets good enough ratings, and has an overall satisfaction rating of 78%. So people who buy this simply want a pot of strong filtered coffee, that they can make by buying fresh beans, and putting them through the grinder on this machine.

This is also a good coffee machine for your typical percolator user

Key Things to Know About the Igenix IG8225

I think the machine itself looks really well, as you can see in the image below. This one will look good in any kitchen, and could also be used in a small office environment.

The Igenix brand is well known, and they have been making coffee machines for a long time.

Easy Set-Up & Use

Some buyers have made this purchase believing that they can make strong espresso type coffee. That is NOT possible with this machine. This is a filter machine and not an espresso machine.

All buyers said that this was easy to set up and get started.

Filters

This machine comes with a washable filters. If you don't want the hassle of having to wash that after each use, then I suggest using disposable paper filters to save you that hassle.

My Summary & Verdict on the Igenix IG8225Bean to Cup Filter Maker

75 %
Value for Money

The majority of people seem happy enough with the results. This is a basic filter machine with the advantage of being able to grind fresh coffee beans.

Overall buyers rate this one at 3.9 out of 5 stars.

The advantages are that it allows you to buy your own beans, grind them and make good filter coffee. Some buyers did report that their machine stopped working, and I have addressed those issues.

This machine comes with a 2-year guarantee.

This machine does come with clear instructions and it is actually very easy to use. If this is not the machine for you, then check out our top 10 list of bean to cup coffee machines, by clicking here.
