Presto 6 Cup Coffee Percolator UK Review

 July 17, 2018

By  Enda McLarnon

For those of us who prefer that stronger taste of percolated coffee in the morning, then the Presto 02822 could be the perfect choice for you. This model is popular with many buyers, and of course it comes from a very good brand.

Please note this model is no longer available.

This is one of the biggest sellers in the USA and Canada. It is an expensive option but you are buying a high quality product.

If you decide on this as your choice then you can make anything between 2-6 cups of coffee at any one time. It is made from stainless steel so as a result it is easy to keep clean, looks good and will last for a very long time.

This is an electric percolator and it is powered by a strong 500 watt motor which helps create that familiar sound of a good pot of coffee on the brew.

Better still these types of percolators are a lot more hygienic than many of the electric coffee makers on the market today. That is because there are no parts like spouts or gaskets where mould can build up.

Who Would Buy a Presto Percolator?

Many people buy percolators for use when travelling to a hotel or to a holiday home. That is because they are not that fond of those small packets of coffee that are typically used there.

That is however not their main use, and percolators are generally used by people who enjoy a strong cup of coffee.

There is nothing sounds quite so good as the familiar and happy sound of coffee perking in the morning and that delicious rich aroma around your kitchen. The Presto 02822 6-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffee Percolator comes with a ready to serve light, so you know when your morning brew is ready.

Once brewed this model then switches to a keep heat mode meaning that you can enjoy your coffee for even longer. That along with a drip free spout certainly makes for a pleasant coffee making experience.

Presto 02822 Specification

Just below I have included the important specifications

  • It is an electric percolator
  • Measures approximately 7-1/2 by 4 by 10 inches
  • Weighs 2.72 kg
  • Detachable cord
  • Drip free spout
  • Ready to pour indicator light
  • 500 watts
  • Brews between 2-6 cups of coffee at any one time
  • Automatic keep warm
  • Cool touch handle and knob
  • Stay cool button
  • 1 year limited warranty

This one looks particularly good and it is slightly smaller than a normal percolator. That will make it very suitable for smaller homes and kitchens, and as I have mentioned maybe for a holiday home or caravan.

Now if you are a regular drinker of coffee, then you will know that no-one likes that last sip where their mouth can get full of find grains. That is for me rather unpleasant so make sure to use a paper filter to avoid this. You should also not use a very fine grind in this Presto percolator.

A medium grind is ideal as it allows the hot water through the grains and will give you the best flavor, and a strong enough flavor as well.

Some buyers though prefer to use just the metal filter, as it does allow all of the rich flavour into the coffee. If you use a medium grind like this, you should be able to avoid any grains at the bottom, but that may take some practise.

The video below shows you the quality of the range of Presto percolators.

Our Verdict on the Presto 6 Cup Percolator

In summary this is a nice little coffee pot, that makes about 3 average sized mugs of coffee and can do that in about six to eight minutes.

There is a basket that filters the grains but by adding a paper filter, you remove and risk of residue at the bottom of your cup or mug.

This percolator is very easy to use and all you need to do is fill it with water, add your grains and switch it on. It truly does not get much simpler than that.

According to the huge majority of buyers, this Presto model is very reliable.

Over the years people will try and experiment with many different types of brewing. Those can range from French pressing, to drip, automatic machines, pod machines and all the way through to Turkish brewing.

The percolator is deemed old fashioned we guess, but for many people it simply makes the best tasting brew of all the different methods. This Presto model brews at around 200 Fahrenheit, which is about perfect.

If you leave it plugged then the coffee will stay hot. It will of course loose a little bit of flavour, but not that much. It is made from stainless steel so no plastic parts to worry about. This is a good pot and we believe the only downside is the price.

    1. That sounds like an American model or perhaps European. Don’t plug it into the UK mains. It would work if you can buy a step down transformer.

  1. Thanks for your response. I will send the model back to Homeloft.co.uk Do you know anywhere that sells a UK model? The one on Amazon.co.uk is also 120v and unavailable.

    1. Amazon used to sell these in a 240Volt option but looks like they have stopped those. eBay also used to do them but now also have only the 110/120 option. I know they are shipped internationally mainly from the USA so it will be very hard to find the product in the UK. It is getting really difficult to find an electric percolator in the UK. I know Stanley do one, but they are few and far between.
