This is our review of the highly buyer rated Krups Expert GVX231 burr coffee grinder. This particular model costs under £50, and it has sold in its thousands across the United Kingdom.
If you are looking for a burr grinder, that can grind enough coffee quickly for 2 cups and up to 12 cups of coffee, then this one can do that with considerable ease.
It can also do a wide range of grain thicknesses, as it has a pretty amazing 17 different settings. We have included an image of this model just below.
Key Features of the Krups Expert GVX231 Model
There are hundreds of different burr grinders on the UKmarket. When I am reviewing a product like this, I try and find why I would buy this one, as compared to the others.
The brand name is very well known, and it has sold a lot of this particular model. If this was poor quality, then it would not be making consistent high volume sales.
We did a list of the top 5 burr coffee grinders for under £50, which you can read by clicking here. This Krups model came out at number 4 on that list.
What makes this one different to the others is the amount of coffee that it can grind. Some of the others higher up the list could not produce the volume that this one can.
Below we have identified what we believe to be the most important features, and the ones that will help you decide, if this is the one for you. We have listed these below with an explanation of why they may be important to you.
Amount of Beans it Can Grind
This is what sets this one apart from many of the other burr grinders available at the moment. This one can grind enough fresh coffee beans, for up to 12 cups of coffee. At the same time if you just need a couple of cups, it can do that easily as well.
To pick the right amount of coffee to use, simply hit the cup selector button, and this grinder works out how much coffee you need. There is no need to worry about how many beans to use, or how much coffee to grind.
Fineness Selector
Many of the burr grinders on the market offer a few selections of fineness. Not that many can offer 17 different choices. So whether you need a coarse grain for your filter coffee, or a very fine grain for your espresso machine, then this one can deliver that.
Other Features
There are a few other features worth mentioning.
Bean Capacity
This grinder can hold up to 225 grams of beans. The reality is that it is best to avoid ever filling up any grinder with fresh coffee beans, unless they are going to be used really quickly.
Coffee beans are always best kept really fresh by sealing them in the pack, and storing them in a cool dry place. It is however good to know that should you have people around for coffee, then this one can handle plenty of cups.
Removable Upper Burr
You can pop out the upper burr, and that makes it a great deal easier to clean.
Safety Lid
There is a a safety lid which ensures the grinder can not run until the lid is on and sealed. That of course is to prevent any accidents from spinning burrs.

What Buyers Say About the Krups Grinder

To do that our team read many reviews, and I have then summarised those below, to save you the trouble. Overall this Krupps grinder achieved a 90% customer satisfaction and value for money rating.
That is a good rating and it has also been a consistent one over time. There are however some complaints about this grinder, and we like to keep our readers properly informed.
What Buyers Liked and Didn't Like
PROS
CONS
This is in my opinion a good grinder for home use. So unless you want one that grinds on an industrial scale, then this one makes good choice. All grinders will clog if they are not cleaned, so make sure to do that.
My Thoughts on the Krups Expert GVX231 Burr Coffee Grinder
It becomes really clear when reading the reviews, that this model Looks well, is well made and has a large bean capacity, with plenty of grain fineness settings.
It has a black plastic housing, with a nice looking brushed steel fascia. The cup selector is really useful, and the grinder is also pretty easy to clean.
However, if this is not the burr grinder for you, then why not check out our top 10 list of burr grinders by clicking here.
You can also check out our top 5 list of burr grinders for under £50. Overall though, this Krupps GVX231 gets good enough reviews, and has enough features to make it good value for money.
Many thanks Enda for all the useful information and reviews on your site, which I came across on looking for a reasonably priced coffee grinder to accompany a recent Delonghi Dedica espresso machine! I note that there are two reviews of Krups machines: A ‘pricey’ GVX242 and an earlier (‘cheaper’) one of a GVX231 – with a seemingly better impression for the 242, which I thought I’d aim for (vs Delonghi KG79). I was puzzled by the fact that the 231, only, is mentioned on Krups UK website and in retail outlets such as J Lewis, Currys etc., the (‘better’, more costly) 242 only being available online e.g. Amazon. On enquiring at Krups I received the following reply:
PRODUCT: GVX231
Thank you for your email. There is no difference between the models, besides the non-UK models having a 3-pin BSI Standard plug. The GVX242 model is made for distribution in Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, model GVX231 is the model made for distribution in UK & Ireland.
Kind regards

I just thought you might like to know!
I’m still not entirely sure whether to purchase the Delonghi or the Krups for best fine espresso grind as some disappointment has been mentioned for both?!
The Krups Burr grinder is a very affordable entrance into the world of burr coffee grinders. However we have found it struggles with grind consistency, especially with coarse settings so would not be our top option for a burr grinder.
The power button broke after 18 months of moderate use. Getting it fixed is quite a frustrating challenge. I can’t see how to open the casing to repair it. Krup don't supply a manual. Website isn't any help. Customer services were useless, promising email information they didnt send (twice). My nearest approved repairer is 2 hours away. Krup is corporate, once they have taken your money they don't want to know.
